Description

There are two Schneider families from Niedermittlau who settled in Pobochnaya: Johann Heinrich Schneider and his family, and Georg Ernst Schneider and his family. The relationship between these two families has not been documented.

Johann Heinrich Schneider (son of Wilhelm Schneider) was born 12 March and baptized 20 March 1701. Johann Heinrich married Susanna Engel (widow of Heinrich Nachgesell) on 12 February 1739 in Niedermittlau. Johann Heinrich and Susanna had five children born and baptized in Niedermittlau: Catharina Magdalena, born 24 March, baptized 30 March 1740; Heinrich, born 5 September, baptized 13 September 1744; Anna Elisabetha, born 25 August, baptized 31 August 1747; Anna Margaretha, born 16 January, baptized 22 January 1750; and Georg, born 26 May, baptized 31 May 1752.

Georg Ernst Schneider (son of Johann Conrad Schneider and Anna Elisabeth Semmel) was born in Niedermittlau on 26 October 1739 and baptized there on 1 November 1739. Anna Maria Schneider (daughter of Georg Schneider and Susanna Gerhardt) was born in Niedermittlau on 31 December 1744 and baptized there on 3 January 1745. Georg Ernst and Anna Maria married in Niedermittlau on 5 January 1764. The baptisms of two children are recorded in the Niedermittlau parish records: Jost Heinrich, born 10 October and baptized 14 October 1764; and Wilhelm, born 27 January and baptized 30 January 1767.

Johann Heinrich and his family, Georg Ernst and his family, and Anna Maria's parents arrived in Russia on 17 July 1772. They were among a group of families arriving in July and August of 1772 who were transported to the Volga German colonies, settling in Pobochnaya in 1773.

Georg Schneider, his wife Anna Maria Lamm from Norka, and their children are reported in the Pobochnaya 1798 Census in Household #9. Heinrich Schneider and his family are reported in Household #11. Anna Elisabetha married Karl Friedrich Miller and is reported in Household #15.

Georg Ernst Schneider and his family relocated to Kolb in 1774. Georg Ernst's widow Anna Maria and her family are reported on the Kolb 1798 Census in Household #18.

There are several other Schneider families reported on the Pobochnaya First Settlers List. Research in ongoing to determine the connections between these families.
