Description

Phillip Bamberger, son of Johann, married Anna Gertruda Stellwagen on 9 Feb 1751 in Sprendlingen (Alzey, Rheinhessen). Anna Gertruda was born on 17 May 1728, daughter of Adam and Anna Barbara Stellwagen, and she died on 11 Mar 1763. Phillip and Anna Gertruda had five children according to the Sprendlingen parish records: Johann Phillip, 21 Nov 1751; Johann Lorenz, 9 Sep 1753; Anna Cunigunda, 14 Sep 1754; Maria Margaretha, 11 Apr 1757; and Catharina Elisabeth, 2 Apr 1760. When Phillip arrived in Russia on 18 Jun 1766, his wife’s name was listed as Katharina. It is not clear where or when he remarried. There are also two children in the family whose baptisms are not found in the Sprendlingen parish records: Conrad and Friedrich. By the time the family arrived in Moor, Katharina is married to Nicolaus Scherf, and three of the children are listed as stepsons in the Scherf household (Moor First Settlers List #18a).
