Description

Johann Just Raab, son of Johann Just Rabe & Anna Christina Stegk, was born 18 August 1720 in Inheiden, south of Giessen. He married there on 12 October 1759 to Anna Margaretha Hilgert, daughter of Johann Adam Hilgert & Margaretha Koch. She had been born in Inheiden on 30 May 1727. They have three known children: (1) Elisabeth, born 4 August 1759 [a couple of months before they were married] and twins (2) Anna Margaretha & (3) Johann Just, born on 14 August 1762.

The family immigrated to Russia, but only the parents actually reached there, arriving in Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard the galliot Der Jan under the command of skipper Markus Dragun. The couple arrived in the Volga German colony of Stephan on 24 August 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 Census in Household No. 22.

Widower Johann Just Raab is still living in Stephan in 1798 in Household No. Sp12. There are no known descendants of this Raab family.
