Description

There are two Ruhl families who immigrated from Herbstein, between Giessen and Fulda, to Russia. Their relationship to each other is, at this point, unknown.

Lorenz Ruhl was born about 1733. His wife was Maria Barbara (surname unknown). They had one daughter, Anna Barbara (born about 1764). The family immigrated to Russia, arriving from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard the hooker Die Jungfer Dietrika under the command of skipper Christian Korsholm. Both his wife and daughter died before they reached the Volga German colonies. Lorenz arrived in Köhler on 21 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 33 along with his new wife, Katharina.

Philipp Ruhl was also born about 1733. He married Maria Sabina (surname unknown). They immigrated to Russia, arriving from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard the hooker Die Jungfer Dietrika under the command of skipper Christian Korsholm. Maria Sabina evidently died during the transport to the Volga colonies, as Philipp arrived in Köhler on 21 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 34 as a widower.

Lorenz and his family are recorded on the 1798 Census in Köhler in Household No. Kl68. Philipp remarried, and his family are found there on the 1798 Census in Household No. Kl71.
