Johann Bernhard Urig was born about 1748 in Groß-Umstadt, Germany. This family does not appear to be related to the Christoph Uhrich family. Bernhard’s lineage can be traced back to Heinrich Uhrich of Groß-Umstadt, Germany, who died about 1669. Johann Bernhard traveled to Russia with his sister Maria Catharina, who was married to Conrad Grass.
