Hans Georg Ulrich was born about 1698 in the area of Baden-Durlach in what today is the German state of Baden-Württemberg. He married Maria Rosina, a widow who had been born in 1713. Maria Rosing had a daughter from her previous marriage, Katharina Scheelen, who had been born in 1738. Hans Georg & Maria Rosina had a boy, Hans Georg Martin Ulrich, born on 20 November 1752 in Hagsfeld, today a northeast suburb of Karlsruhe.
Hans Georg and his family immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), departing from Altona, Duchy of Holstein, on 5 May 1761 under the leadership of Andreas Kirchhof. They arrived in the city of Schleswig, Duchy of Schleswig, on 9 May 1761. While living in Denmark, stepdaughter Katharina married Georg Gottlieb Lerch, who had been born in 1743; they had a boy who was named Christian and immigrated to the Volga German colony of Schäfer after July 1763.
Hans Georg Ulrich, his wife Maria Rosina and his son Hans Georg Martin are recorded in Denmark until 12 January 1765, when they immigrated to Russia.
They arrived in the Volga German colony of Dönhof on 21 July 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 30. Son Hans Georg Martin is still residing in Dönhof according to the 1798 Census where he is recorded there in Household No. Dh06.
