Benedict Zorn, son of Johann Georg and Catharina Zorn, was born in Gernsheim, southwest of Darmstadt, on 1 March 1738. He married in Landau in der Pfalz on 4 February 1764 to Margaretha Kühnberger, daughter of Caspar & Maria Apollonia Kühnberger.
Benedict immigrated to Russia. His wife died either before he left Germany or in route, but he arrived in the colony of Volmer on 18 June 1766, and is listed there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 42 with a new wife named Katharina (age 16).
