Johann Heinrich Engel (son of Johann Peter Engel and Anna Catharina Weitzel) was born in Lissberg in October 1726. He married Anna Elisabeth Gockscha (daughter of Peter Gockscha and Anna Margaretha Geisel) on 16 Feb 1753. Anna Elisabeth was born in Ortenberg on 4 May 1725. Johann Heinrich and Anna Elisabeth had seven children according to the Ortenberg parish records: a stillborn daughter, born 1 May 1753; Elisabetha Margaretha, born 19 Mar 1757; Johann Adam, born 31 Oct 1758 (died 29 Jan 1759); Anna Catharina, born 30 Nov 1759; Anna Angelica, born 24 Oct 1761; Anna Margaretha, born 5 Mar 1764 (died 10 Mar 1764); and Anna Maria, born 13 Mar 1765.

The family arrived in Russia on 15 Sep 1766, and settled in Walter a year later. The family is reported in the Walter First Settler’s List in Family #24.
