Description

Johann Kaspar Bopp (Caspar Popp) was born on 12 December 1708 in Vonhausen, Büdingen, Hessen, Germany. Caspar is the son of Johann Ernst and Anna Elisabeth Bopp who were both born about 1680 in Vonhausen.

On the 6th of January 1735 Caspar married Anna Elisabeth Loth at the parish church in Vonhausen. Caspar and Anna Elisabeth had a daughter, Anna Christina Popp, who was baptized on 20 October 1748 in Vonhausen. Anna Elisabeth died sometime before 1766.

Caspar’s second marriage is listed in the Büdingen marriage records in April 1766. His second wife, Anna Dorothea, was the widow of Friedrich Daut (Thaut) from Diebach. Her maiden name is Popp and she is a close cousin of Caspar's.

Caspar, Anna Dorothea, and two children from her first marriage (Johann and Maria Elisabeth) arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia (now Lomonosov) on 11 June 1766 aboard the Lübeck ship Der Junge Mathias.

Caspar, Anna Dorothea, and Maria Elisabeth, are among the first settlers in the colony of Messer (household 82), arriving on 18 June 1767. Johann must have died en route to the settlement area.

Caspar's daughter from his first marriage, Anna Christina, is a late arrival in the colony of Kutter. She is married to Heinrich Bauer. Anna Christina and Heinrich Bauer are listed in the 1775 Kutter census with three children.

1. Michael, born 1767 in Vonhausen

2. Andreas, born 1773 in Kutter

3. Barbara, born 1775 in Kutter

Michael Bauer later moves to Messer where his grandfather lived and several other families who were originally from the Vonhausen area.

Heinrich Bauer died after the 1775 Kutter census was completed. Anna Christina remarried to Johannes Sell from Kutter. Anna Christina died 18 April 1808 in Kutter from dropsy.
